Technos International Week 2019 - TIW2019 - Daily Blog - Day 0

I will be blogging daily for my journey during Technos International Week 2019. This is day 0 out of day 15: the 8th of June 2019.

On day 0, we were due to travel to Tokyo, Japan. TIW2019 organizers had booked a flight for us from Heathrow Airport London (Terminal 2) to Tokyo, Japan (through Vienna). We had to depart 1 day earlier because our travel journey was 16 hours! We had to stop and layover at Vienna for 5 hours. My alarm was set at 5:30am, and I remember I woke up pretty excited, stressed and scared. I've had all my baggage and paperwork ready from the previous day. Me, 3 other students and 1 professor were set depart from our college: Pembroke College, Oxford. We were set to leave at 6:30am. I was listening to music from The Great Gatsby (2013) movie in the morning:

Luckily, everyone arrived on time, and we all departed as planned. We got a bit stuck in London's morning traffic but we were able to check-in on time:

I've had a small English breakfast before departure:

During the short flight (< 2hours) from Heathrow to Vienna, I was in an Economy seat and got offered coffee and snacks:

During the 5 hours layover, I grabbed a nice burger from an Airport restaurant.

After the 5 hours layover, we were to fly for 12 hours from Vienna to Narita International Airport:

Since this is the first time I travel for a lengthy amount of time, I've upgraded to a premium economy seat, the seat wasn't bad!

We were served with orange juice first:

We were then handed the menu:

As for the drinks, I went for red wine and some water. They served us with nice snacks:

While they had some nice entertainment, I had already set up the first season of Prison Break on my laptop! I have watched this show ago and I thought it would be cool to rewatch some of it in the plane:

I went for the pasta, and it was a great choice!

I also tried some in-flight entertainment in the process:

I was able productive and did some work for my PhD! Sorry for blurring this photo (can't show my work), but I can say I enjoyed working while being on the plane:

Shortly before landing, they served us nice sweets and fruits:

And, we had to fill two landing cards:

After being awake/travelling for 22 hours, we finally arrived!
